Did you know that Camden is home to over 100 art galleries? Or that there is a popular street market every Sunday? Or that you can enjoy an immersive theatre show at the iconic London Astoria? That you can take a boat trip down the River Thames and hike London’s oldest royal park? These are just some of the lesser-known secrets that make this whole borough worth exploring.

Camden is one of my favourite places in London, and it’s included in my Ultimate Guide to London.

Camden is a hidden gem and offers something for everyone. The borough is packed with things to see and do, making it ideal for anyone looking to spend a day exploring a new area. So, read on to find out how you can have the most out of your day exploring Camden.

Plan your route ahead

Well-planned exploration can help you to avoid crowds and maximize your time by visiting off-the-beaten-track places. You don’t have to see everything in a day, but with a few afternoon hours at your disposal, you should be able to visit a few highlights that you might have missed during the morning rush.

If you want to get the most out of your visit, it’s worth taking note of what you want to see and do in Camden. So this way, you can tailor your route to visit places that suit your specific interests. For example, if you’re more interested in art galleries than traditional museums, you could design a route that takes you to several of the borough’s top spots.

Get up close and personal with wildlife

You might have seen the many wild animals in zoos and safari parks around the world, but what about getting up close and personal with some of London’s native wildlife?

One of the options is to visit London Zoo. It is probably the most popular sight in London thanks to its diverse range of animals. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with some of London’s native animals, but it isn’t the best option if you’re hoping to see big wild animals. There you can see giraffes, monkeys and tigers. It is a wonderful trip for all the family.

London Zoo is found in Regents Park, where you can see a range of London’s native wildlife. This is only of the only locations in central London where the hedgehog is still found. Otherwise, you can see a wide range of birds, including water birds. It has a large wetland area and is home to over 100 species of wild birds.

Visit some of the best art galleries in London

One of the best things about visiting art galleries in Camden is that you can see great works at no cost. In fact, many Camden art galleries offer free admission on the first Thursday of each month.

Visiting Camden art galleries is a great way to explore the borough’s rich artistic history, as well as to get a feel for the borough’s current artistic scene. Some of the best art galleries in Camden include the Camden Arts Centre and Stables Market. At the Camden Arts Centre, you can see a wide range of contemporary arts. It tends to host temporary exhibits, meaning your experience will be unique. The Stables Market is an opportunity to purchase artworks from local artists and retailers, so you can take a part of Camden’s artistic scene home with you.

If you’re hoping to see works by local artists, you should also make sure to check out the Camden Museum, which has a fascinating collection of artefacts from the borough’s past.

Visit the buzzing Camden Market every Sunday

If you love wandering through markets and bazaars, you’ll love the Sunday Market in Camden Town.

It’s not just a market, but an event that is packed with activities and performances to enjoy. There are live music performances, art workshops, food kiosks, and more to enjoy. The market itself is one of the largest in the UK and is a great place to get unique gifts. From artworks, vintage clothes, world cuisine, and antique books, this market has everything you could ever want to buy. The best bit? You can visit the market every Sunday without paying.

The Sunday Market is a great way to explore Camden, as it provides a taste of what the borough’s markets are like. It’s also a great way to try something new.

Venture into the shopping hub

If you’re hoping to explore a shop that you’ve never visited before, you should make the high street shops at Camden a stop on your route. This shopping center has over 100 retail locations, including independent clothes shops and major retailers. This is the place to come shopping if you’re looking to buy unique items and products. Known for it’s alternative, punk and artistic history, you can buy from many independent retailers. There are many alternative fashion stores, piercers, and tattooists to visit here. It also hosts a great many places to buy secondhand and vintage fashion. For anyone who likes to live an alternative lifestyle outside the mainstream, this is where you want to do your shopping.

It’s the largest collection of independent retailers in London and is a great place to visit if you’re looking to get a taste of what the city’s independent shops are like.

Go exploring the parks and green spaces

There are so many great things to explore in Camden that you need to spend time in the borough’s green spaces too.

One of the best ways to do this is by taking a walk along the Regent’s Canal Path. This is a 630-mile-long canal that runs through the south of England and is one of the oldest canals in Britain. It passes through Camden, so it’s a great way to spend time walking through the green spaces of Camden.

You can also visit some of the borough’s parks and green spaces while you’re at it. Green Belt, Regent’s Park, and Primrose Hill are great places to explore if you’re looking for a change of scene.

Did You Know? – The borough has an immersive theatre show

One of the lesser-known secrets about Camden is that it has its very own immersive theatre show that you can see. Currently, this is “Peaky Blinders: Rise” based on the popular television show. You can catch it at the Vanguard Theatre in Camden.

There is a wide theatre scene in Camden, which is often forgotten due to the presence of the West End. Camden is full to the brim with pub theatre – pubs with a theatre space upstairs. Many of these venues show up-and-coming and small shows from new theatre creators. Head to these to be ahead of the curve and see something unique. Not only this but there is also Regents Park Open Air Theatre nearby.
