Travelling to London on a Budget

London is a city known for its luxury and grandeur. It’s the home of the Royal Family, and lots of upmarket shops and restaurants. I’ve even written a post on luxury hotels in London, of which there a plenty in the city to choose from. But what if you don’t have the cash to splash and still want to visit?

Despite being the capital city of England, it is absolutely possible to explore London on a budget. One of the great things about this city are the vast number of free things it has for you to do. For instance, pretty much all of London’s art galleries and museums have free entry. Additionally, there are an enormous amount of parks for you to explore and enjoy London’s beautiful green spaces. Not to mention tourist attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. All of these a free to view and photograph.

How To Visit London For Less

However, a big question a lot of travellers have is to do with accommodation. Can you stay in London on a budget? Whereabouts should I stay? What can I get for my money? Never fear, I’m here to help!

If you’re on a really tight budget with a small amount to spend on accommodation, then hostels are the way to go. Many beds in hostels here are even as cheap as £10. However, if a hostel isn’t your style and you’d rather spend a little more money to have your own space, then affordable hotels are the way to go.

TOP TIP: Make sure to book well in advance. Due to the low price of the rooms, they can sell out quickly and this can push the prices up a little. Get in quick to get the best prices.

The Perks of a Hotel Over a Hostel

Affordable London Hotels

While a hostel is definitely best for those on a tight budget, there are many benefits to staying in an affordable hotel. For one, you get your own room. No being woken up by snoring strangers, or concert-goers banging in at 1am! You are absolutely guaranteed to get a better nights sleep in a room of your own. You’ll be able to relax and settle down more easily.

You’ll also have a bathroom of your own. It’s simply more hygenic and you won’t feel like you’re holding people up with your morning routine. Feeling stressed and rushed is the last thing you need first thing on your trip. You also don’t need to be struggling to find the loo when you’re desperate in the middle of the night.

Hotels also have a number of other benefits. They often have cafes attached, and sometimes even have fridges in the rooms. Many have tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. Little things like these can really go a long way to making you feel more laid back during your visit. An added perk can also be the more enjoyable interior design many of the hotels have. If you’re making the effort to travel to the city, you may as well make it the best you can possibly be.

So, now you’re convinced, let me get you up to speed on the best affordable hotels you can stay in when you visit London.
